Scope and who operates this site

The Road Called Home is an independent editorial publication operated by Vamshi Vangapally. This policy applies to roadcalledhome.com, its journey submission tools, and the publication automation connected to the official The Road Called Home Reddit community.

Information we collect

Information a contributor provides

The journey form asks for a private contact name, email address, and optional phone number. It also collects the public-facing display name and the material used to build a story, including home region, traveler type, route, timing, campgrounds, rig, tow vehicle, gear, costs, lessons, links, and narrative answers. Consent choices and the time of submission are stored with the questionnaire.

Voice recordings and AI-assisted drafts

If a contributor uses the voice workflow, the recording is sent to OpenAI for transcription. The transcript may then be sent to OpenAI to structure an editable draft. The Road Called Home does not intentionally save the original audio file in its database after transcription. A contributor can edit the transcript and every generated field before publishing.

Information collected when someone visits

Hosting and security systems may record standard request information such as IP address, browser type, requested page, timestamps, and error details. Google Analytics loads only after a visitor selects Allow analytics. When allowed, it collects pseudonymous information about pages viewed, device and browser characteristics, approximate location, and interactions with the site. We do not intentionally send questionnaire contact details to Google Analytics.

What becomes public

A journey is published only after the contributor confirms that the account is truthful and authorizes publication of the chosen display name. The public page can include that display name, home location, traveler and family details, photographs or links supplied for publication, route, dates, rig, gear, budget, campground notes, and the contributor's story.

The private contact name, email address, and phone number are not displayed on the public journey page. A published journey may be excerpted or adapted into a Reddit post that links back to the original story. Reddit stores and displays that copy under Reddit's own policies. Removal from this site cannot guarantee removal of copies, screenshots, search caches, or lawful reposts controlled by other people or services.

How we use information

We use collected information to:

  • create, display, search, and maintain the journey archive;
  • transcribe recordings and prepare an editable draft when requested;
  • contact a contributor only when permission was given or when needed to handle a request;
  • format, fact-check, correct, moderate, and distribute published material;
  • create an abridged Reddit edition of a published story;
  • measure readership after analytics consent; and
  • protect the site, diagnose failures, and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell contributor contact details or use them for third-party advertising.

Services that process information

Railway hosts the website, application services, logs, and PostgreSQL database. OpenAI processes audio and transcript text for the optional transcription and drafting tools, and processes published story text to prepare Reddit editions. Google Analytics processes visitor measurement data only after consent. Reddit receives the final abridged text when a story is scheduled for the community.

These providers process information under their own terms and privacy commitments. Information may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect people or the service, investigate abuse, or complete a business transfer involving the publication.

Retention and security

Published stories and their structured route and gear records are retained while they remain part of the archive. Private submission records are retained while needed to document consent, maintain source history, answer corrections, protect the publication, and meet legal obligations. Operational logs and backups follow the hosting providers' retention schedules.

We use access controls, encrypted connections, and limited-purpose secrets appropriate to a small publication. No internet service can promise absolute security. Please do not submit government identifiers, financial account details, precise private addresses, or other information that the story does not need.

Your choices

Story choices

Before publishing, a contributor can edit the draft and decide whether to allow contact or light editorial cleanup. After publication, a contributor may request access to the private submission, correction of an error, or removal of the story. We may retain limited records needed to document the request, consent, or legal obligations.

Analytics choices

Visitors can allow or decline Google Analytics. The choice is stored in the browser and can be changed here at any time.

Current choice: not selected

Children's privacy

The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their private contact information. A contributor must be at least 18 or have a parent or legal guardian submit the journey. An adult who includes a child in a story must have authority to share that child's name, image, and details. Please favor first names or general descriptions and avoid school names, precise routines, or private locations.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the publication and its tools change. The date at the top will identify the latest version. Material changes will be presented prominently when reasonable.

For privacy, correction, or removal requests, email vamshireddy.ui@gmail.com. Include the journey URL and enough information to verify that you are the contributor. You can also review the Terms and conditions.
